"Saltburn Pier" Original watercolour/goache painting by Steve Whelerton Alternative title for our American viewers "Under the Boardwalk" The several miles of flat sandy beach stretching from Teesmouth ends here where the glacial boulder clay of Huntcliff rises formidably from the sea. This Victorian pier once three times its existing length is one of only a very few now remaining around the coast of Great Britain. Old Saltburn made up of the Ship Inn and several fishermen's cottages is tucked under the cliff facing the North Sea and was a favourite smugglers haunt. Steve Whelerton has captured the dawn light just before the sun rises over the cliff to illuminate a scene much loved and visited during my childhood. You will have to hurry for this picture. If it is not sold soon it will be hanging on my own wall at home. Artcare conservation grade mountboards. Textured frame. Overall size 86 x 59cm. WITHDRAWN FROM SALE
Steve Whelerton A graduate of Graphic Design from Cleveland College of Art puts jam on his bread by teaching, following his love of art in his spare time. Steve paints mainly Landscapes in Pen/Ink, Watercolour and Goache. |
